Understanding Deepfakes

Deepfakes are synthetic media — images, video, or audio — generated using deep learning techniques such as generative adversarial networks (GANs) and diffusion models. Multi-modal approaches combining several detection methods yield the highest accuracy.

Enterprise Defense Strategies

Organizations should implement multi-layered defenses against deepfake threats. This includes deploying real-time detection tools for video conferencing and identity verification workflows, establishing out-of-band verification protocols for high-value transactions, and training employees to recognize social engineering attempts using synthetic media. Content provenance standards such as C2PA provide cryptographic proof of media authenticity, enabling organizations to verify the origin and integrity of digital content throughout its lifecycle.
