What Is AI Watermarking?

AI watermarking is a technique for embedding imperceptible but detectable signals into content generated by artificial intelligence systems. These watermarks serve as digital fingerprints that enable identification of AI-generated text, images, audio, and video. As generative AI produces increasingly realistic content, watermarking has become a critical tool for maintaining content authenticity, preventing misuse, and complying with emerging regulations that require disclosure of AI-generated material.

Technical Approaches

Text watermarking modifies token selection probabilities during generation, creating statistical patterns detectable by verification algorithms but invisible to readers.
